A school
counselor is an adult friend to children and a resource for
parents and teachers. The counselor's primary role is to
assist students with problems that interfere with learning.
It is my job to support and enhance the educational, emotional,
social, developmental and physical growth of students.
I see children individually and in small
groups and in classroom guidance. Students may visit
with the counselor on the basis of self-referral, parent-
referral and teacher-principal-referral.
Counseling in elementary school can be
considered preventive instruction based on developmental needs
of children to be productive students at school.
students are expected to demonstrate positive attitudes,
respect, responsibility and physical and mental wellness. The
guidance program can be expected to produce positive results in
areas including: school attendance, academic achievement,
drop out prevention, removing obstacles to learning , career
awareness, peer relationships, school climate and study skills.
